In 1930s Germany, a diverse group of characters embarks on a journey, exposing the complex social hierarchies of the time.

The movie takes place on an ocean liner in 1933, where a diverse group of passengers embark on a 26-day journey from Mexico to Germany. The story revolves around the ship's doctor, Willi Schumann, who falls in love with a Spanish countess, La Condesa, despite her troubled past. As they navigate their feelings, they must also confront the complexities of their lives, including Willi's wife and sons back in Germany. The voyage is filled with encounters between passengers from different backgrounds, including a middle-aged American divorcée, a former baseball player, a young American couple, and a German Nazi sympathizer.
