Side Streets background

Side Streets

A sailor's life is forever changed when he finds employment with a reclusive fur trimmer, and they build a life together, eventually starting a family. But a shocking act of betrayal sets off a devastating chain of events.

Madame Valerie, a San Francisco-based furrier, is a shrewd businesswoman who runs her business on a lower-rent street and charges her customers the highest possible price. She meets sailor Tim O'Hara, who is unable to get a job due to his reputation as being unreliable. Despite this, she falls for him and marries him, unaware of his chronic philandering. As their marriage goes through ups and downs, Bertha's perspective of Tim and their relationship changes when she meets one of his former lovers, Marguerite Gilbert, who has no idea they are married.
