Three cowboys, having bought Christmas presents with no one to give them to, stumble upon a flashing star in the desert, which leads them to the Star Auto Court motel. The motel's owner, Nick Catapoli, lacks Christmas spirit, believing people only pretend to care about the holiday. When a hitchhiker arrives seeking shelter, Nick refuses, but the drifter's words might change his mind, especially as a distressed young couple, José and Maria Santos, arrive with no room available.
