In the summer of 1942, three friends, Hermie, Oscy, and Benjie, spend their carefree days on a US island with their parents, seemingly oblivious to the chaos of World War II. As Oscy focuses on the logistics of getting intimate, Hermie's heart belongs to the beautiful and married Dorothy, whose husband is away fighting. When her husband departs for the front, Hermie musters the courage to confess his feelings to Dorothy.
