A low-budget film from M-G-M, barely promoted and forgotten, but still better than some of the more prominent films from the same era. Shelley Winters shines as a devoted wife trying to keep her husband in line, while Keenan Wynn gives a controlled performance as her husband, a fight manager. The story follows a deacon's son who becomes a prize fighter after being picked up by Wynn's character, but struggles with his conscience when he discovers the man he's supposed to fight is the one he thought he killed.
Tennessee Champ
This lesser-known MGM film has flown under the radar, yet it outshines some of Leonardo DiCaprio's more prominent projects from the same time period. Shelley Winters, back on screen after a 15-month hiatus, delivers a standout performance that showcases her impressive range.
