Inside Bruce Bickford's Santa Monica studio in 1978, technicians busied themselves amidst drawers of figurines. As Zappa's symphonic music played, Bickford's creations unfolded on screen. Knife-wielding Africans clashed with rifle-toting Whites, while a toilet drawing transformed into a parade of morphing foods and animals. In claymation, ordinary men navigated perilous landscapes, with everyday moments giving way to grotesque imagery, as nothing remained static for more than a moment.
The Amazing Mister Bickford
Frank Zappa's diverse soundtrack perfectly complements whimsical clay animation by Bruce Bickford.
