In San Juan, Puerto Rico, a series of gruesome murders takes place, with the killer using the victims' blood to paint the walls. An agnostic Jesuit priest, Father Michael, visits the crime scene and becomes entangled in the investigation. He believes the killer is a talented abstract-expressionist painter struggling with a spiritual crisis and anger towards God. As Father Michael delves deeper into the case, he uncovers his own connections to the crime, including an ex-girlfriend in San Juan and a growing attraction to a life-drawing model named Mary. The investigation leads to an aging local artist, Lewis Garou, but is the case truly closed?
