He insults Duke Charles of Burgundy, leading to his banishment from Paris. In exile, Villon seeks to protect France from Burgundy's plots, disrupting an engagement and earning a death sentence. He finds a way to exploit King Louis' superstitions to gain another chance to serve France and win the hand of Charlotte.
