A district attorney, who initially convicted a young man of murder, becomes the warden of the prison where the man is serving his sentence. Years later, the warden discovers that the prisoner is on the verge of a breakdown due to his grueling work in the prison's textile mill. He offers the prisoner a new job as his personal valet, which Graham accepts and performs well, earning the respect of both the warden and his daughter. However, Graham's new life is disrupted when he stumbles upon a murder committed by his cellmate. He must decide whether to uphold the prison's code of silence or reveal the killer to the warden, who is urging him to come forward.
