In 1945, Burma, the end of World War II brings mixed emotions for those who survived. For Scottish soldier Corporal Lachlan "Lachie" MacLachlan, the war is far from over. A severe wound to his lower back leaves him in a M.A.S.H. unit, undergoing surgery. As he recovers, he watches as fellow soldiers prepare to go home, feeling increasingly isolated. The doctors inform him that he must remain for observation due to a defective kidney that will shut down within weeks.
