In 1960s rural Spain, a poor farming couple, Paco and Régula, struggle to make ends meet as tenant farmers for a wealthy landowner. They have three children, including one with a disability, and their other two children are forced to work instead of attending school. The family's fortunes change when Régula's eccentric brother, Azarias, joins them after being fired from his job after 61 years.
