In 1933 New England, a wealthy patriarch, Cabot Barr, summons his relatives to his estate after a false report of his niece's death. He reveals his true intentions, fostering a romance between his niece Marjorie and a young man, Allan. After his death, a film plays, revealing the old man's will and leaving Marjorie the majority of the estate, with the condition that she marry Allan and carry on the Barr family name.
