Early-10th century AD, Britain is in turmoil following the death of King Edward. Two sons, Aethelstan and Aelfweard, vie for the throne, with Aethelstan's claim disputed. Aethelstan is influenced by Ingilmundr, a half-Dane, half-Saxon with prophetic powers. Meanwhile, enemies of the Saxons, including the Danes, Scots, and smaller kingdoms, see an opportunity to invade.
