A post-college writer, Jeff, is forced to leave his parents' house and embarks on a road trip to Austin with his friend Tom. However, their adventure takes an unexpected turn when Tom's ex-girlfriend intercepts his paycheck, causing him to return home. Jeff decides to stay in Kernville, CA, hoping to find inspiration, but instead spends his days watching TV and eating junk food. He meets Cat, a young woman who works at his motel, and the two begin a romance, going on adventures and falling in love.
