In a poor New York neighborhood, a bitter and lonely Jewish pawnbroker, Sol Nazerman, struggles to cope with the trauma of his past. A survivor of Auschwitz, Sol has lost all faith in God and humanity, and now only values money. His life is marked by daydreams, actually flashbacks to his time in the concentration camp, where he lost his loved ones.
