In the late 1960s, a large chemical factory is built in a small town, with Bednarz, a dedicated party member, in charge. Despite his wife's past activism in the town and his own unpleasant memories, Bednarz aims to create a place where people can work and thrive. However, his goals clash with the townspeople's short-term priorities, leading to his disillusionment and resignation.
