In the late 19th century, a taciturn and solitary man named Martinón resides in a deserted high mountain town, dedicating his days to maintaining his home and hunting deer and wolves. He has no human contact except for occasional trips to the nearest town to trade animal skins. Following a friend's suggestion, Martinón purchases a wife, Pascuala, from Ubaldo, and brings her to live with him in the mountains.
