During World War II, Japanese forces invade Burma, threatening to invade British India. RAF Flight Lieutenant Michael Quinn and his comrade flee towards the border, but their column is ambushed and they scatter. Quinn and his friend eventually reach a British outpost, where he's sent for rest and relaxation. He's later selected to learn Japanese to work for Army Intelligence and interrogate POWs. Quinn and his fellow officers attend language school at the Red Fort, where they meet their instructors, including a Japanese man who was released from a British internment camp. A young and beautiful Japanese woman, Sabby, arrives as an instructor and captures everyone's heart, including Quinn's.
