The movie follows the story of the Yarborough family, who founded a 4 million-member religious organization after the end of slavery. The leader of the organization, the Head of the Organization, must be a male member of the Yarborough family. After the previous leader's death, his son Michael attempts to install his transgender son Tahir as the new leader, but his sister Judy and the selection committee are opposed to it. As the family fights over the position, dark secrets and crimes from their past are revealed, leading to a war where nothing is off limits, including murder.
