A former Navy engineer returns to Louisiana in 1946 with a vision to build a secure offshore oil drilling platform, securing funding from a major oil company. As he and his partner navigate the business, they also find themselves smitten with the daughters of a local shrimp boat captain. However, their plans face numerous challenges, including opposition from the fishing community, sabotage, a hurricane, and a troublesome board of directors.
