Alex Jürgen, a hermaphrodite, defies societal norms of binary gender identity. One in 2,000 babies is born with ambiguous gender, and Alex's case is a prime example. When he was two, doctors recommended surgery to "correct" his anatomy, resulting in the removal of his penis and testicles and the creation of a vagina. He grew up in a small village as a girl, struggling to conform to societal expectations despite his size XXL frame.
