During World War II, a French patriot named Jean Batiste sneaks into the small port of St. Pierre-le-Port in occupied Brittany, seeking safe passage to England. He befriends the townsfolk, including a waitress named Frisette, and finds refuge with a baker's mother. However, the local resistance movement is active in the area, and Jean soon becomes involved in their efforts to sabotage German operations. He falls in love with a young woman named Marie, who is pretending to cooperate with the Germans, and together they work to uncover the secrets of the German submarine base at St. Nazaire.
