Gene Autry, a cattleman, is elected mayor of Quartz City, a California gold camp in 1859, and teams up with Marshal Breezie Larrabee to clean up the town. They confront crooked Tod Rawlings and his associates, foiling an attempt to kidnap a caravan of women who will bring law and order to the town.
