Kiki Houses, which originated alongside voguing culture, initially served as a sanctuary for queer youth rejected by their birth families. However, the movement has largely been co-opted in the West, with White cis women in Spain being prominent examples. In contrast, a rising number of Black trans individuals are now working to reclaim this space. Jayce founded the Kiki House of Bodega and Ballroom Encounters to provide a safe haven for the Black queer community, often comprising individuals whose families rejected them for their identity.
