Captain R.F. Scott's second Antarctic expedition, launched in 1910, aimed to reach the South Pole before the Norwegian team led by Roald Amundsen. Although the British successfully arrived at the pole, they found that the Norwegians had beaten them to it. The expedition's tragic end came when Scott and his four companions perished on the return journey.
