Pat Morgan, a reporter for the Morning News, goes undercover as a secretary to investigate philanthropist Adam Harker, who is involved with a local mob boss. When Harker is found dead, Pat's rival reporter Ted Rand uses a fake badge to gain access to the crime scene and gets an exclusive scoop. As Pat and Russell investigate, they uncover a web of deceit and revenge, ultimately leading to a surprising twist: the janitor at the apartment house is behind the murders, seeking revenge for his brother's wrongful electrocution.
