Harold North, the public-relations director, tells the story of how his boss, Kenneth Post, III, became distracted from business to pleasure. Kenneth, a former playboy, meets Sarah Hatfield, a beautiful entertainer, and they begin dating. Sarah's straightforwardness charms Kenneth, but his friend Harold is concerned she only cares about his wealth. Despite this, they get married and Kenneth throws a society party to introduce Sarah. However, Sarah's behavior, including her ability to play pool and tend bar, shocks the guests. Kenneth's former girlfriend, Patricia Beaton, tries to manipulate Sarah, causing jealousy and further problems.
