Pat Garrett apprehends five members of Butch Cassidy's gang in Abilene, prompting him to summon Wyatt Earp and Bat Masterson to join forces. They soon discover that a half-million-dollar shipment is en route by train, and Cassidy is building an army to steal it. With Cassidy monitoring the telegraph, they send a decoy message claiming the money has already arrived at the Abilene bank, only to find that the townspeople refuse to defend their town and instead release the prisoners to avoid a violent confrontation.
