Baxter, a bull terrier, is given to Mrs. Deville as a surprise by her daughter Florence. Despite Mrs. Deville's initial fear, she keeps Baxter due to her loneliness. However, Baxter craves excitement and dominance, leading him to cause an accident to escape his mundane life with Mrs. Deville. He is then given to a young couple, but his satisfaction is short-lived as they soon have a baby, prompting Baxter to take matters into his own paws once again.
