A widow, Bunny O'Hare, has lost everything after the Bank of New Mexico foreclosed on her mortgage and demolished her home. Feeling she can't ask her adult children for help, she turns to William Gruenwald, an escaped convict who was behind bars for bank robbery. In exchange for not turning him in, he teaches her how to rob banks, motivated by a desire for revenge against the Bank of New Mexico and to help her ungrateful children. With Gruenwald's help, Bunny successfully pulls off a bank heist, and they continue to rob Bank of New Mexico branches to support her children. However, a determined state police investigator, Lieutenant Greeley, is hot on their trail, and a pair of copycat robbers with their own agenda complicate the situation.
