In the small mid-western town of Vulcan City, a struggling heavyweight fighter named George Wilson arrives to challenge the heavily-favored Frankie Sebastian. When his manager fails to show up, George finds support from the Karlsen family, who own a local motel and restaurant. As George prepares for the big fight, he meets Miss Gormley, who is also seeking help from his missing manager. Despite the odds, George wins the fight, earning the respect of trainer Al Muntz and the animosity of Willie Foltis, a former fighter and enforcer for the rival promoter.
