A young village girl, Mumtaz, loses her family in communal riots and moves to Mumbai with her uncle. They struggle with poverty, and her uncle convinces her to work as a bar girl at Chandni Bar, promising it's temporary. However, he fails to keep his promise, and Mumtaz is forced to dance and flirt, eventually becoming a victim of her uncle's abuse.
