A 60-year-old woman, Matilde, has lived with her abusive husband Porfirio since she was 15. After his death, she's left alone with her cat Fidel, but she believes Porfirio's ghost continues to torment her. To make matters worse, her pension is cancelled. A young and resourceful neighbor, Miguel, takes pity on Matilde and they develop a deep friendship that helps them break free from their old beliefs and live the life they always wanted.
