In this film, a group of Czech pilots flee to England after Germany invades Czechia in 1939, joining the RAF. After the war, they return home and are imprisoned in labor camps due to suspected anti-Communist sentiments. The story jumps between a post-war labor camp where one of the pilots, Franta, is a prisoner and England during the war, where Franta becomes a mentor and friend to a young pilot named Karel.
