Edward Foster inherits a dilapidated mansion from a mental patient, only to discover it's haunted by the ghost of its former owner, Mr. Marr. As he's possessed by Marr's spirit, Foster uncovers the dark story of Marr's family's tragic demise, including the murder of his wife and children. Meanwhile, a group of opportunistic individuals, including a doctor, his sister, and a solicitor, pretend to befriend Foster, but their true intention is to find the hidden fortune Marr had stashed away before his descent into madness.
