The movie combines elements of Giovanni Boccaccio's life with three of his most famous stories of love. The story follows Boccaccio as he joins Fiametta and five other women at a country villa, where they are hiding after their city, Florence, Italy, was ravaged by the Duke of Lorenzo. Fiametta, a recently widowed woman, spurns Boccaccio's romantic advances, so he tells her two stories to win her over. The first tale is about a young wife who prefers astrology to her husband and is captured by a pirate to teach him a lesson. The second story is about a merchant who loses faith in his young wife due to circumstantial evidence presented by a rogue. The third story is told by Fiametta and is about a woman who is spurned by her husband, who was forced to marry her by his king.
