In this tragic love story, a young woman named Ewa falls deeply in love with a boarder in her family's home, Lukasz. Despite societal disapproval, they begin a romantic relationship. However, their happiness is short-lived as Lukasz is denied a divorce and is forced to leave Ewa. Ewa becomes pregnant and, heartbroken, drowns her child. She then sets out to find Lukasz, only to discover he has married a wealthy woman and returned to Poland. Desperate and desperate, Ewa becomes embroiled with two con men who use her to lure Lukasz into a trap. As she struggles to escape her circumstances, Ewa's life spirals out of control, ultimately ending in tragedy.
