A European principality's royalty visit New York City to secure a loan to stabilize their country's finances. While the queen mother handles negotiations, Princess Drina befriends Tex, a nightclub owner, and learns boogie-woogie piano from him. When Claire, the star singer, injures her ankle, Drina impresses Earl Carroll, a Broadway producer, with her singing. As Drina's feelings for Tex grow, she must choose between her royal duties and her newfound love.
