The planet is plagued by the Purple Death, a mysterious and deadly disease. Dr. Zarkov investigates the source of the outbreak in his spaceship and discovers that Ming the Merciless is behind it, seeding the atmosphere with dust from his home planet of Mongo. Flash, Dale, and Zarkov join forces with Prince Barin of Arboria and Queen Fria of Frigia to stop Ming's evil plans and find the antidote, polarite, which is only found in the frozen northern land of Frigia.
