Aspiring animator Gord leaves Oregon to sell his ideas to Hollywood, but is met with rejection and criticism. He returns home, where his father's behavior towards him worsens. Gord falls for a wheelchair-bound doctor, Betty, who has a unique sexual preference. Meanwhile, his family seeks therapy, and Gord lies about his father's behavior towards his brother. Eventually, Gord finds success with his own animated series, "Zebras in America", based on his family.
