In a small Brazilian coastal town in 1925, Nacib, the owner of a local bar, hires Gabriela as a cook and they begin a passionate affair. Despite his strong attraction to her, he grows annoyed by the attention she receives and proposes to her, thinking it will stop the attention. However, their marriage is short-lived as Nacib becomes jealous and forces an annulment when he catches Gabriela with his best friend.
