A group of children embark on a perilous journey to Jerusalem with Jacques de Cloyes, who claims to have received a divine mandate to find Jesus' grave. Along the way, a monk joins their pilgrimage, and as they travel, the children's hidden desires and jealousies are revealed, including their unrequited love for the charismatic Jacques. But as the journey concludes, doubts arise: was Jacques truly guided by the Voice of God, or was it something else that drove him forward?
