Heidi, an orphaned 8-year-old, is taken to live with her grumpy, old, outcast grandfather in the mountains. Her kind nature and loving personality help bring her grandfather back into society. When she's taken away to be the companion of a rich man's invalid daughter, her grandfather sets out to get her back. Despite being loved by everyone, Heidi is sad and lonely, but holds onto hope and faith that she'll be reunited with her grandfather and the people of the mountain village.
