Clint Reynolds, a press agent, helps Brad McArthur rebrand himself as a humanitarian after being charged with manslaughter. As Brad adopts an orphan newsboy, Bobby, Clint and Brad's girlfriend Linda secretly start an affair. When Linda lies about Bobby, the cook Maggie reveals the truth, and Brad discovers the betrayal. He banishes Clint and Linda, and the negative publicity forces him to flee town. Brad and Bobby find refuge at a mountain resort owned by Alice Martin, where Brad falls in love with Alice. However, the police, tipped off by Linda, are closing in, and Brad sacrifices his freedom to rescue Bobby from drowning, leaving behind promises of love from Bobby and Alice.
