Bernie Fishbine, an overweight man, develops a daily routine of buying chocolate kisses at the neighborhood store, where he meets Theresa Garabaldi. Their shared bus route leads to a chance encounter, and Theresa invites Bernie to watch her play piano at her father's restaurant. Inspired by his enthusiasm, she convinces him to join a gym.
