Kapo background

Kapo

A courageous and determined young Jewish girl orchestrates a daring breakout from a Nazi concentration camp, fighting for her freedom and survival in the face of insurmountable obstacles.

In the black-and-white film Kapo, a 14-year-old Jewish girl named Edith is sent to a concentration camp with her parents. After her parents' death, she is helped by a Jewish doctor who gives her the identity of a deceased woman, allowing her to pose as Nicole and avoid persecution as a Jew. As she navigates her new identity, Edith initially struggles with grief but eventually learns to adapt and prioritize her own survival. She begins to submit to a German officer's advances in exchange for privileges and eventually becomes a Kapo, a woman prisoner responsible for disciplining other inmates. Despite her tough exterior, Edith harbors deep regret for her circumstances.
