Kapyong background

Kapyong

A multinational group of Allied soldiers from Australia, Canada, and New Zealand interrupt their Anzac Day celebrations to engage the Chinese Army in a fierce battle as it pushes towards Seoul during the Korean War.

Following a South Korean army rout, the Chinese People Volunteer Army pursued their enemy to the lines of Australian and Canadian troops, 39 kilometers to the rear. The two sides clashed in a close and personal struggle, with individual soldiers fighting at times with bayonets, often in darkness. The United Nations troops held the high ground and artillery support, while the Chinese relied on superior numbers. The Battle of Kapyong became the turning point of China's Fifth Offensive, denying the Chinese victory and forcing them into negotiations.
