Marianne, a 27-year-old woman, has been on the move her entire life, making decisions that have led to failures, including a failed marriage. She's optimistic and believes each decision will be the right one. Darly, a 38-year-old cocktail waitress, has a more pessimistic outlook, having worn her failures openly on her sleeve. After receiving news that her ex-husband has died and left her a house in remote Palmer Valley, Alaska, Darly offers Marianne a ride to Portland, but when that move also fails, Marianne joins Darly in Alaska. Along the way, they have various adventures and meet people who may change their perspectives on life. However, Darly's Alaska past has a surprise in store for them, making life in Alaska not quite what they expected.
