Memory of the Camps background

Memory of the Camps

The British Army Film Unit captured the harrowing footage of concentration camps in Germany in 1945, providing a haunting and powerful testament to the atrocities of World War II.

Allied camera teams filmed footage of German concentration camps in April/May 1945, capturing scenes of dead detainees and malnourished survivors. The goal was to create a documentary exposing Nazi atrocities to weaken pro-Nazi sentiment and provide evidence of the atrocities. Although the film was never completed, the footage was archived. In 2014, the footage and original script narration were used to create a documentary from the perspective of liberating Allied soldiers.
