A young woman from Vermont leaves her rural hometown behind, opting for the glamour of New York City and enrolling in a renowned theatrical school to pursue her dreams of stardom.

A young Vermont farm girl named Gwen Harding leaves her rural life to attend the prestigious Devereau School of Music in New York, where she becomes a singing sensation and catches the eye of a charming student named Richard "Slick" Ellis. However, her newfound fame also attracts the envy of Slick's girlfriend, Brenda Allenby. As Gwen navigates her new life, she must also contend with the financial struggles of the school and the arrival of her former singing teacher, Lucy Meadows, who becomes embroiled in the school's affairs. Meanwhile, Gwen's family farm is in crisis, and she must return home to help with the harvest. But when she decides to enter her beloved pet cow Myrtle into the Farm Jubilee, Brenda steals the cow, leading to a dramatic showdown.
